ABOUT

We are The Wates Group, and we’re one of the largest privately-owned construction, development and property services companies in the UK. With a 3,800 strong workforce, we collaborate with over 10,000 supply-chain operatives and partners, where together we inspire better ways of creating the places, communities and businesses of tomorrow.

 Trusted industry experts

Celebrating our 125th anniversary in 2022, we have a wealth of experience delivering complex, technically challenging science and research projects for our public and private clients and have become firmly embedded in this rapidly developing sector.

Through our talented in-house experts who cover a range of specialisms we work collaboratively with our partners throughout the design and construction process to understand their requirements, reducing their risk and ensuring the delivery of pioneering, sustainable facilities that attract the very best occupiers and drive innovation.

 Sustainable solutions

Always focused on the future, we understand the importance of low energy design to improve sustainability and reduce embodied carbon. Considering the impact of a building after handover, selecting sustainable materials and optimising the use of prefabricated MEP modules through our off-site factory Prism are just some of the ways we ensure our projects run efficiently. We are committed to driving forward the net-zero agenda, facilitating conversations with our peers, suppliers and clients to find ways of developing innovative solutions to turning energy intensive facilities into future proof projects.

 Pioneering projects

We are proud to have worked on a number of exciting firsts in the industry including, the first UK biomass storage facility (Drax Eco Store), the first offshore renewables testing facility (Narec Blyth) and the first world leading centre for food and health research (Quadram Institute in Norwich). We are currently working on the UKs first National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) and the new state-of-the-art Life and Mind Building (LaMB) for the University of Oxford.
