ABOUT
Ensuring the selection of the right construction partner is essential for the success of any project. We understand this and will bring the skills and expertise to deliver your project.
Locally based, we have a strong affinity within this region, the success of its people, businesses and the local community as a whole.
Our recent projects include many from our wide ranging portfolio of life sciences, high tech and complex projects. Our experience ranges from development masterplanning at Harlow Innovation Park, through extensive pre-construction engagement on two concurrent projects at Granta Park, Cambridge, to cutting edge R&D and Life Sciences facilities for both private and public sector clients. Above all, we are keen to work with you to make your project a resounding success.
Who we are
VINCI is a world leader in concessions and construction. We design, build, finance and manage facilities which improve everyday life. These include the systems that transport us, the buildings in which we live and work, the water, energy and communication networks that build our communities.
Making it happen
Translating concept and design into a deliverable project is a specific skill; we have the partnerships and experience to allow us to challenge convention and deliver truly different facilities.
Although a large, national tier 1 contractor, our approach and structure is simple. Our goal is to build strong partnerships with customers and stakeholders to ensure the success of every project.
Our decentralised approach allows for independence across the regions and sectors we work within, providing accountability and autonomy for individuals. This in turn fosters strong and lasting relationships, maximising entrepreneurial activity whilst at the same time continuously improving the service we provide on a project-by-project basis.
Twin contracts at Granta Park, Cambridge: Illumina Building & Leisure Facility
The recently awarded Illumina Building contract comprises a 19,700m² purpose built European headquartersfor Illumina. The company has a key role with Genomics England in a Government sponsored partnership to deliver the 100,000 Genomes Project. The new R&D building will be delivered in two phases and create cutting edge new laboratories and offices for around 900 staff.
The neighbouring new amenities building will deliver an innovative leisure facility for the whole science campus community. A focal point for wellbeing and social activities, it will include a 25m swimming pool, squash courts, climbing wall, multi-gym, tennis courts, cafeteria and lounge area.
We took over the role of preferred bidder 10 months into the second stage negotiations, unlocking a legacy scheme that was over budget. During this preconstruction period we interrogated every design assumption to de-risk the project and make it affordable. This included bringing a new design team to the table, engaging with the supply chain and fully immersing ourselves in all aspects of the challenging project to fully understand our client’s requirements, drive value engineering and mitigate any impact on the programme.
Building the knowledge economy Swansea Bay Campus: Science and Innovation Campus
We recently delivered five major academic facilities, 11 student accommodation buildings, social space, retail units and infrastructure as part of one of the largest knowledge economy schemes in Europe. We took on the design from concept stage.
The 25,000m2 of academic teaching space and 3,200m2 of commercial R&D facilities include the Institute of Structural Materials (home to Swansea Material and Research Testing), Engineering East (home to the Manufacturing Facility), Library & Resource Centre, School of Management, and the Great Hall.
The project’s scale allowed us to maximise our contribution to the local economy. Meet the Buyer eventsand early liaison with local business stakeholders leveraged local social benefit, supply chain and employmentopportunities.
Masterplan development Harlow Innovation Park
We have been appointed by Harlow Council as development partner to work with it to build the new Science and Innovation Park on a 25 acre site owned by the Council. It will focus on high technology businesses in the Life Science, ICT and Advanced Manufacturing sectors, providing over half a million square feet of commercial space across 26 buildings and more than 2,500 jobs
Our appointment involves masterplan development from scratch, design and delivery of road infrastructure/utilities, building concept design, funding and marketing the development. We have delivered a compliant solution of highly-flexible development space comprising HQ, R&D, office/ laboratory accommodation, university research and incubator buildings.
Liverpool Life Sciences Accelerator: A business incubator hub for life science
This project, our ninth for this Trust, is delivering a new 6,500 sqm Life Science Accelerator providing business incubator for SMEs operating in the sector. They will benefit from laboratory facilities, including access to six Cat 3 labs, offices space, with ultrafast internet connectivity and direct link to a grid computing facility.
The Accelerator co-locates the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and a raft of associated SMEs, enabling closer public/private sector collaboration between clinicians, academics and industry in research and innovation.
A world class facility Bristol Life Sciences: Department of Biological Sciences
Opened by Sir David Attenborough, this latest project for the university has provided a new focal point for world leading research. The BREEAM Excellent seven storey building for the Department of Biological Science provides approximately 13,600m2 of accommodation for research and teaching facilities, with a design to complement the neighbouring listed buildings. The landmark building provides research and teaching labs, plant growth and GM greenhouse, acoustic chambers and controlled environment rooms suitable for 21st century bioscience. The development is fully focused on the end user with form reflecting function.
During construction we were careful to minimise disruption to sensitive experiments being undertaken at the university’s neighbouring Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information.
Many of the most significant advances will come from the Life Sciences and it is fitting that Sir David joined us for the launch of this magnificent building, which will put Bristol on the map for world‑renowned research and teaching in this area for years to come. Vice-Chancellor of the University.
