The owners of a renowned water testing company have praised the “excellent balance of space, location and facilities” of the Scott Bader Innovation Centre, which has allowed their business to flourish.
SimplexHealth, with their unique and innovative range of water test kits which are sold worldwide, has just increased its office space at the Scott Bader Innovation Centre to cater for its growing team as it celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Started as a home business by husband and wife, John and Carolin Pickering, its sustained success led to a move to the Wollaston-based centre in February, initially occupying office space totalling 275 sq. ft, increasing to 395 sq.ft due to taking a third office.
John and Carolin launched the business from home 10 years ago but limited space together with steady growth prompted the need for expansion. The range of water testing kits which can be used to test water in properties, remote locations as well as at home have proved to be popular with businesses and home users.
Customers are using the water test kits to test their drinking water for potential contaminants like bacteria, lead or metal. Consumers also like the inexpensive and easy-to-use hardness tests. Owners of properties or holiday lets or people who have a private water supply can use these to make sure the water is safe without having to pay for expensive laboratory costs.
Managing Director, John, said: “It was important to us to have a bigger, flexible space we could grow into as we expand. The Scott Bader Centre provides all these things plus the manned reception means we don’t have to be here all the time, as well as the perfect central location and the added bonus that I can walk to work.
“We’re also delighted to be celebrating our 10th anniversary and look forward to our future at the centre. When we moved in it was a question of having all the facilities we needed, it was a case of ‘plug-in and go’, it was so easy.
“We didn’t need to worry about anything like phone lines or setting up Wi-Fi. It’s also great to be part of an entrepreneurial community.”
Passionate about water quality and with a background in food supplements, John set about finding a simple, effective way to test the quality of water.
He added: “All of our products are centred around ease of use and giving the user reliable results. Our main business is selling water test kits to people who want to test their own water at home or a business as part of a manufacturing process. Our products allow people to easily take more control of what they are drinking and the quality of the water which is used. The water may well be okay at the source, but that could be 50 miles away.”
“Our water testing kits have proven popular because they are easy to use, safe and users can be assured of the quality as many of our water test kits and strips have been EPA performance-verified. We pride ourselves in offering tests that make complex chemistry simple and environmentally friendly.”
Rita Cebula, Centre Manager of the Scott Bader Innovation Centre, said: “We are delighted to celebrate not only the expansion of Simplex Health but also their 10th anniversary in business.
“As an incubator centre, we pride ourselves on providing the flexibility, space and support to help businesses prosper and grow. We are always looking to welcome new businesses into our community.”
Simplex Health also sells a wide range of body and urine tests, alkalising products such as green drinks, pH drops and alkaline minerals as well as magnetic therapy products.
The company is part of a hotbed of pioneering businesses based at the Scott Bader Innovation Centre, which provides office space and workshop facilities on flexible terms for growing companies.
