The Wilton Centre is playing host to the first of a series of events which will address the very future of our world.
The challenges of human health in a changing climate, the circular carbon economy and sustainable food systems will be tackled by representatives of businesses based at the Centre as well as experts and academics.
“Pioneer Presents: Planetary Health” will be launched on 27 March and people working in life sciences across the North East are welcome to attend.
It will be followed by a further 11 events through the spring and early summer. Six will be staged at the Wilton Centre, one of 12 sites in the UK and Ireland owned by Pioneer Group and home to 289 businesses. The majority of them – both established and start-ups – are involved in life sciences.
Executive Director Toby Reid said: “At Pioneer Group, we believe in the power of innovation and collaboration, to tackle our human and planetary health challenges.
“The health of the planet we all call home is under threat from human mass consumption, with earth’s natural systems and boundaries being increasingly breached on a daily basis.”
And he warned: “At the present global consumption rate, by 2030 we will need two planets to meet both our resource needs and absorb societies waste.”
The first “Pioneer Presents: Planetary Health” will hear from the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) and other Wilton Centre occupiers Mura Technology and Azotic Technologies.
Mura Technology is about to begin operations at its global first plastic recycling plant at Wilton International. Azotic Technologies has created sustainable biofertilizers for farmers across the world.
Following the event businesses who entered the Planetary Health Golden Ticket Programme will pitch their ideas.
Hydrogen and green technology innovators were invited to take part in a competition to win a year’s free incubation space at the Wilton Centre, a year of scale up and innovation support from CPI and a year of Venture Development support from Pioneer. The prize is valued at £75,000.

The next “Pioneer Presents: Planetary Health” at the Centre will take place on 30 April when the subject for the day is “Green Carbon for the UK Chemicals Sector”.
