Along with Thomson Gray, Oberlanders are delighted to be providing support to Montagu Evans in their market and economic assessment of the Caerlee Mill site in Innerleithen. The assessment will inform the proposals for the creation of a Mountain Bike Innovation Centre on the site which would see the refurbishment of the mill to create offices and innovation space.
Oberlanders have been involved in this project since early 2019, where we provided initial feasibility proposals for the Mountain Bike Innovation Centre. We also worked in conjunction with Select Contracts from Whistler in Canada to develop plans for a commercial bike park in Innerleithen, which is part of the wider strategy to develop the South of Scotland as a world class destination for cycle tourism.
Caerlee Mill was built between 1788 and 1790 at the behest of Traquair-born Alexander Brodie to manufacture woollen cloth. It was the first water-powered textile mill to be built in the Borders and the Mill Lade still runs through the development.
