Liverpool Science Park Celebrates ‘Largest Letting Since 2014’ As It Welcomes The MTC To The Campus
Liverpool Science Park (LSP) has announced that it has exchanged contracts with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC),as part of its largest non-education letting since the newest of the three LSP buildings opened in 2014.
Bridging the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, the MTC, which is headquartered in Coventry, is taking 4,750 sq ft in ic1, where up to 60 full-time employees will be based.
The MTC has been located at Liverpool John Moores Byrom Street Campus for four years now but this expansion sees a significant increase in its operations in the North West.
Leanne Katsande, Head of Commercial at LSP, said: “After a series of successful lettings and customer expansions, finding such a significant amount of space for the MTC was an exciting challenge.
“The incredible team went above and beyond to accommodate all of the MTC’s needs, whilst relocating some of the buildings existing customers and amenities within other parts of the campus.
Dr. Charlie Whitford, Associate Director for Strategic Development at the MTC, said: “We are excited to be expanding our footprint in Liverpool and broadening our services and support for the wider North West, supporting skills, productivity and growth in the region.
“For the past four years we have been located on the LJMU campus. We’re looking forward to continuing our work with Liverpool John Moores, as well as working with the University of Liverpool and other regional stakeholders to help manufacturers in the North West region stay competitive, improve product development and processes, and benefit from new technologies, taking academic research and translating it into innovative manufacturing solutions for industry.”
Mark Power, Vice-Chancellor at Liverpool LJMU, said: “As soon as we heard that the MTC was looking for additional space we knew that Knowledge Quarter Liverpool – and more specifically LSP – was the perfect place for them.
“In previous years lettings of this calibre would have gone to a competing city but Liverpool’s Knowledge Economy is going from strength to strength and this deal with the MTC absolutely confirms that.”
The MTC’s move to LSP means that ic1 and ic2 are at 100% occupancy for the first time in history, demonstrating a phenomenal transformation since Sciontec Liverpool took over the line management of the estate in March this year.
