Western General Ward 15, handed over on schedule

Ward 15 at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh was handed over on schedule, on 24th December, ready for occupation in the new year. This ambitious project was taken from conception to completion in just under four months, including all statutory consents. The accelerated programme was necessary to provide NHS Lothian with increased inpatient accommodation, with 22 beds and associated service rooms, provided for the 2019/20 increased Winter Beds pressure.

Proposals included internal alterations, providing three new En-Suites to existing Bedrooms; new fire doors throughout, new internal wall, floor and ceiling finishes; new lighting, fire alarm, and nurse call systems; and new internal fittings to various rooms. Once utilised for Winter Beds, Ward 15 will be used as decant bed space, to facilitate works for the Oncology Enabling project proposed for early 2021.
