UKSPA Award for Discovery Park’s Education and Tenant Community Activities

Discovery Park, a thriving high-quality science park playing a key role in the South East of England’s life sciences community, is delighted to announce that the impact of its Education and Tenant Community activities has been recognised via an UKSPA award. Presented at the UK Science Park Association conference in Birmingham, the Most Successful Project Award (in the large site category) highlighted its work around STEM education and tenant engagement.

As an example, the Community Lab, based in Discovery Park’s iconic Building 500, is a key component of the site’s STEM skills offering. It is a unique collaboration between academia and industry, providing hands-on scientific learning for local school children. The scheme brings together Discovery Park, Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), Pfizer and educational charity STEM Learning to provide local schools with access to the industry standard facilities and equipment normally out of reach in the classroom. Other activities at Discovery Park include CCCU’s Industry Liaison Lab, which drives interaction and collaboration between students and tenants.

The UKSPA Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements and activities of its members and the impact which they, and their tenant companies, have made to local, national and international economies and communities.

Mayer Schreiber, CEO of Discovery Park said,  “It’s an honour to have our Education and Tenant Community activities recognised by our peers with this UKSPA award. There has always been a strong STEM skills base in the local area, and activities such as the Community Lab are part of our commitment to maintain and grow that base, helping children to learn and inspiring them into adopting scientific careers. Many thanks and congratulations are due to all of our partners in these important activities.”
