Oxford Science Park

The Oxford Science Park is wholly owned and developed by Magdalen College, Oxford.

History and Objectives

The overall development concept for The Oxford Science Park derives from a master plan, which seeks to provide a quality environment for research and business activities. The concern with quality extends beyond the buildings and the facilities they offer, and the plan calls for the integration of buildings, car parks and roads into an attractive landscape providing pleasant surroundings for work and relaxation.

Since development began in 1991, the Park has evolved into a dynamic and vibrant community in which companies of all sizes enjoy a high quality and attractive working environment. Over a half a million square feet of business and laboratory accommodation has been completed and work on a new phase of developments is currently underway.

Thriving Location

Located approx. 4 miles from Oxford city centre, The Oxford Science Park is thriving as a centre of excellence for science, technology and business occupiers. The region’s large skill base has attracted innovative, leading edge organisations at the forefront of research and development, together with fast-track companies using The Oxford Science Park as the ideal catalyst for business start-up.

Accommodation

The Magdalen Centre was constructed in 1991 and provides smaller serviced office and laboratory accommodation of 80 sq ft to approx. 2500 sq ft. In 2002 a new extension was completed (Magdalen Centre North). The extension provides larger accommodation (up to 11,500 sq ft) for developing companies and is linked to the original centre by an attractive glazed bridge enabling both buildings to be run as one. The floor area of the combined facility totals 100,000 sq ft gross.

The Magdalen Centre provides occupiers with a corporate headquarters-style reception area, back up telephone switchboard service and Broadband internet connection. Additional services are offered to the occupier on a ‘pay as you use’ basis, eg. postal, fax, photocopying and secretarial services. These facilities, together with the opportunity to take exactly the space required without making a long-term commitment, are an essential aid to company growth for both the start-up and high-growth business.

Serviced laboratory suites

In addition to office space, Magdalen Centre North offers a choice of serviced laboratories with associated office suites. The suites are suitable for small laboratory based companies or R&D and satellite departments of larger organisations. Shared laboratory facilities include, fume hood, polished water, autoclave, glass wash and drying cabinet.

The ‘HUB’

The ‘HUB’ is a suite of small offices within the original Magdalen Centre, and offers smaller sized (80 – 125 sq ft) furnished office space suitable for one or two person companies on convenient and flexible terms.

Virtual Office

The Centre offers a virtual office facility aimed at giving start-up companies additional support during the vital early stages of their development.  Over thirty companies are currently using this service.

Meeting rooms

Companies on the Park and local businesses are able to hire the Conference Suite located within the Magdalen Centre. This air-conditioned suite will accommodate 90 people and is equipped with a range of audio visual presentation equipment. The suite comprises one large room which is capable of sub-division into two separate rooms with a soundproof divider. It adjoins the fully equipped catering facility and restaurant and has immediate access to the terrace and riverside walk. The Magdalen Centre also offers 6 smaller meeting rooms which may be hired on an hourly basis.

Sadler Brasserie Restaurant

The Sadler building features a double-height atrium containing the Sadler Brasserie, a separate bar area and also a ‘grab & go’ sandwich/coffee area. There are also four meeting rooms available for hire by both Science Park and external companies.  The Building also provides a choice of four offices available on simple monthly/annual licence agreements.
