An Innovative Heritage
Lincoln’s southwest industrial quarter has been at the heart of the city’s prosperity for more than 150 years. Not only was it at the forefront of industrial plant development -it can claim to be the home of the original tank before WW1- by the middle of the Twentieth Century, it boasted Europe’s largest foundry.
Lincoln Science and Innovation Park (LSIP) has been tasked by its founders, the University of Lincoln and the Lincolnshire Co-op, with reinvigorating this site as an engine of industry driven by science, technology and innovation.
LSIP combines existing infrastructure like the Think Tank innovation centre with new developments to house academic scientific research as well as commercial analysis laboratories and high-quality space for innovation intensive firms.
LSIPs Phase 1 development combines the repurposed red-brick industrial architecture that is the legacy of the site’s past with newly sculpted parkland and cutting-edge modern design.
The Think Tank is a strikingly designed innovation centre providing managed offices and workspaces for small and medium firms. With 30 hi-tech, energy efficient offices and workspaces ranging from 430–1250 sqft, Think Tank is able to offer ideal space for early stage and growth firms on a very flexible basis. It also features a range of conference rooms, informal break out areas and meeting pods.
Joseph Banks Laboratory
LSIP boasts of strong links to the University of Lincoln, whose main campus is located adjacent to the Park. Not only is the Park providing a home to the University’s College of Science in the 75,000 sqft Joseph Banks Laboratories, it also provides an integrated link into the University’s analytical service, the Siemens Engineering School, the Sparkhouse Incubator and a wealth of technologies available to the private sector.
Boole Technology Centre
LSIP is developing a new kind of grow-on space; the Boole Technology Centre provides highly flexible multi-occupancy premises for growing technology businesses. It offers the same level of customer service and common working areas as a traditional innovation centre but with the to carve off independent demises with private entrances and high levels of privacy. The 30,000 sq ft of building will allow laboratories and offices to be accommodated in units ranging from 400 sqft to 15,000 sqft. Construction commenced in February 2016 and the building will be open in March 2017.
Sparkhouse, the University of Lincoln’s business incubation centre, is home to creative, innovative and technology-based start-ups. Over the last twelve years more than 300 new businesses have benefitted from the centre’s expertise.
