Building on eight decades of innovation, Harwell confirms it has delivered 1 million SQF of new space since 2020 with a further 4 million SQF planned
As it approaches its 80th anniversary, Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, a joint venture between the UK Government (UKAEA and UKRI-STFC) and Brookfield, continues to expand its position as the UK’s most important science and innovation destination. A strategic national asset and home to the UK’s largest concentration of national research facilities, Harwell Campus has been at the forefront of discovery for eight decades, from the nation’s first nuclear research laboratories to today’s breakthroughs in space, quantum, energy, and life sciences.
The Campus is currently completing a 0.5 million SQF speculative development programme providing lab and advanced manufacturing space to support the immediate needs of Oxfordshire and the wider region’s thriving innovation and spin-out community.
Looking to the future, the Campus has a detailed masterplan to deliver an additional 4 million SQF of advanced manufacturing, laboratory, and office space – ensuring the 700-acre campus continues to power the UK’s science, technology, and industrial growth for years to come.
This next phase of growth supports the UK Government’s commitment to regional innovation and the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor, positioning Harwell as the cornerstone of a globally recognised ‘Science and Innovation Supercluster’.

Recent announcements from The Crown Estate regarding the purchase of, and its long -term plans for 200 acres of designated agricultural land located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are entirely separate and in no way connected to Harwell Science and Innovation Campus.
Harwell Campus is designated as a Strategic Employment Site and Science Vale Oxford Enterprise Zone by The Vale of White Horse and a Life Sciences Opportunity Zone by the Office for Life Sciences (part of Department of Health and Social Care and Department for Science, Innovation and Technology).
Harwell’s focus remains on delivering its ambitious, government-backed masterplan as it moves into the next decade of delivery.
