Global aerospace giant Airbus is to open a new office in Derby near to Rolls Royce
The aircraft manufacturer has confirmed that it is taking space at the iHub innovation centre on Infinity Park, which is next to Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace division.
Airbus is a major customer of Rolls-Royce, which supplies Trent jet engines to a range of Airbus aircraft, including the Trent XWB, which is manufactured in Derby.
The firm said that one of the reasons for choosing the iHub was its proximity to Rolls-Royce. It has not yet been able to say whether the office will mean new jobs are created.
Airbus said the office would enable the expansion of its Procurement Operations Propulsion team, which will work with all the current Rolls-Royce engine programmes.
Airbus has a worldwide footprint and employs 15,000 people in the UK alone. It is not yet known how many jobs Airbus will be creating at the iHub – but it has taken two offices at the building, totalling 1,500 sq ft.
