The EpiCentre in Haverhill has become a powerful catalyst for business growth, helping dozens of growing companies scale successfully and create jobs for the region, according to its newly published report.
The report “Celebrating 5 Years of Innovation, Growth and Impact” shows that since opening in November 2020 it has supported 172 companies, helping them secure £150 million in investment funding, created over 300 jobs, and contributed £10.5 million to the local economy.
Helen Earl, Centre Manager at The EpiCentre, said: “These figures demonstrate the transformative role The EpiCentre has played in supporting ambitious businesses. We’re not just providing workspace – we’re creating an ecosystem where companies can connect, collaborate and access the expertise they need to thrive.
“Seeing our members secure substantial investment and create hundreds of jobs has been incredibly rewarding, and we’re excited to build on this momentum over the next five years.”
Since opening, the centre has supported 20 pioneering science and biotech companies, including high-growth ventures such as KluraLabs and ExpressionEdits, alongside a diverse mix of creative, professional, and digital businesses, including SKC Studios and CP Packaging. Many of these companies have graduated into larger premises across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, demonstrating The EpiCentre’s effectiveness as a springboard for growth.
The range of companies that have benefitted from The EpiCentre business ecosystem include:
- SKC Studios who were the very first company to join The EpiCentre, setting the stage for a partnership that would help shape the future of innovation in Haverhill and beyond. Over the past five years, SKC Studios has evolved from a creative game development studio into a pioneering force in AI-powered customer engagement. Their flagship product, 1956 Individuals, an AI-powered platform of emotionally intelligent avatars, is redefining how people interact with information and experience brands.
- KluraLabs, founded in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, began with a bold vision: to create antimicrobial solutions that protect people without harming the planet. Born from the collaboration between physicist Dr Reza Saberi Moghaddam and biomedical scientist Dr Matin Mohseni, KluraLabs found their home here at The EpiCentre, where their mission-driven approach has flourished.
- The Audiology Expert, founded by Keyla and Luiz de Magalhães in 2021, has quickly become a trusted name in hearing healthcare across Suffolk and Warwickshire. With clinics at The EpiCentre in Haverhill and in Leamington Spa, the practice offers comprehensive audiology services including diagnostic hearing tests, ear wax removal, tinnitus management, and advanced hearing aid fittings.
- Since establishing its base at The EpiCentre in 2024, EDR Technology has rapidly become a driving force in sustainable energy and intelligent infrastructure. Its flagship innovation, the Energihub, is a modular platform integrating solar PV, wind turbines and battery energy storage systems. Designed for grid-tied, off-grid, and remote environments, it is helping major UK enterprises reduce operational costs and carbon impact, from construction firms to local and widespread businesses seeking energy independence, resilience and/or carbon and diesel reduction, promoting a healthier business.
- In 2025, multi-award-winning firm 1 Accounts Online joined The EpiCentre, bringing their dynamic energy and commitment to SME success into our thriving business community. Founded in 2013 by Paul and Jenni Donno, this family-run team, including daughters Jade and Katie, Jade’s husband Josh, and a talented group of 13, embodies the spirit of collaboration and growth that defines The EpiCentre.
- In 2024, brothers Kem and Altan Gokay brought CP Packaging to The EpiCentre, marking a pivotal moment in their journey. With a decade of experience in custom printed packaging and a client list including household names like Sandwich Sandwich and Chaiiwala, their arrival signalled a new chapter of innovation and ambition. For CP Packaging, The EpiCentre is more than a workspace, it’s a launchpad for ideas and collaboration. “The environment here sparks new thinking,” says Kem Gokay. With plans to grow their team locally, the company is set to scale with purpose, driven by innovation and community.
Looking ahead, The EpiCentre is focused on strengthening its role as a launchpad for innovation. By combining specialist laboratory facilities with adaptable office space, it will continue to attract ambitious businesses across science, technology, and creative sectors. The centre’s mission remains clear: to provide the connections, resources, and collaborative environment that help companies scale and drive sustainable economic growth for the region.
