Business Development Manager

University of Southampton Science Park – Chilworth

Salary: £50-60k DOE

 University of Southampton Science Park are looking for an experienced and confident Business Development Manager to join their busy Senior Management team and being responsible for all business development aspects of the management and development of the Science Park. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be accountable for the overall success of the sales pipeline to enable the Park to achieve its commercial goals.

Business Development Manager, the role:

  • Business Development activities: end to end sales processes and pipeline generation achieving short- and long-term commercial goals, including maximising occupancy levels and rental incomes and building close relationships with occupiers
  • Lease Management: property enquiries; organising and conducting viewings; negotiation and drafting of lease terms; liaison with legal advisors and property consultants
  • Marketing and Communications responsibilities: creating and implementing the marketing plan to generate new leads and raise awareness and profile; reviewing and managing outsourced marketing and PR activities; generating programme of networking activities and events
  • Business Support projects – organising and running the Catalyst business accelerator programme; liaising with SETsquared partnership
  • Line Management duties – managing Business Development Coordinator (including EDP and annual appraisals); acting as a role model for employees for working collaboratively, team working and customer service

Business Development Manager, perfect applicant:

  • Capable to acquire and apply in-depth knowledge of the property market, resident businesses and competitor activity
  • Comfortable leading negotiations as well as developing and presenting successfully robust proposals and business cases for approval at a senior level
  • Confident in managing external suppliers to ensure they deliver the business requirements ‘on time’ and ‘on budget’
  • Self-starter that requires the minimum of supervision to perform their role
  • Strong research and strategic analysis skills
  • Team player who is confident at communicating effectively at all levels including public speaking externally on behalf of the Science Park
  • Excellent networking and collaborative skills at all levels
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office Package

This is a full time, permanent position. The working hours are Monday to Friday 9am until 5.30pm with an hour unpaid lunch break.
