Exeter Science Park has hosted delegates from the city’s German twin town, discussing innovation and industry in both Exeter and Bad Homburg.
The Mayor of Bad Homburg, Alex Hetjes, met with Dr Sally Basker, CEO of Exeter Science Park, on Friday, November 17, along with the President and Councillors from Bad Homburg City Council.
Dr Basker presented her vision for the Park to the group, explaining the future plans, ambitions and developments for Exeter’s STEMM (science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine) hub.
The tour of the Science Park was part of a twinning visit to the city, organised by the Lord Mayor’s office in Exeter.
Dr Basker said: “It was an honour to welcome representatives from Bad Homburg City Council and explain to them our vision for the future of the Science Park and the wider South West region.
“One of Bad Homburg’s leading economic assets is the high-technology firms that produce computer hardware and software. I was keen to discuss best practice on how to support and maintain this sort of business landscape and to share the success stories of the thriving technology firms here at the Science Park.”
The group were presented with a framed photograph of Exeter Science Park to commemorate their visit.
During their visit, the delegation was also invited to the Civic Centre, Met Office and Sandy Park, as well as enjoying the Christmas Market on Cathedral Green and the city’s Christmas lights switch-on. On Saturday, November 18, the group attended a Cathedral Concert by the Festival of Choruses, where a choir from Bad Homburg was taking part.
Mayor Alex Hetjes also spoke to attendees at the Exeter Chamber dinner on Friday, November 17, toasting to the Chamber’s 150-year anniversary.
Exeter has been twinned with Bad Homburg since 1965. The town lies outside Frankfurt and is renowned for its castle, spa and casino. Exeter is twinned with four cities across the globe and reciprocal visits are arranged each year.
