SUMMARY:Construction News and Property Week Life Sciences & Research Clusters conference and awards
DESCRIPTION:The Construction News and Property Week Life Sciences & Research Clusters conference is a valuable investment for agents\, developers\, investors\, occupiers\, property management teams\, construction professionals and more\, to examin this fast-growing sector in commercial property. \nDemand for lab space in the UK is still outweighing supply. With over 974\,500 sq ft of lab space in demand and an additional 664\,300 sq ft delivered in 2024\, there is still a shortage of facilities\, presenting opportunities for developers and construction professionals to bridge this gap. \nThis expanding sector provides lucrative new opportunities for contractors to help deliver on the demand for space\, while real estate professionals can ensure developments align with tenants’ needs\, attract new start-ups as well as established organisations\, and realise the potential returns on investments. \nUKSPA is a media partner at this event and have secured a 15% discounted ticket price for its members at £325 for the conference and £595 for the access all areas pass. \nTo book tickets please email charlotte.mera@emap.com quoting UKSPA. These tickets are not available to book online or via UKSPA.

SUMMARY:World Food Prize Laureate winner to give 2025 John Innes Foundation Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Dr Cary Fowler\, former US Special Envoy for Global Food Security and 2024 World Food Prize winner will be delivering this year’s John Innes Foundation Lecture\, ‘Trends – Trouble – Tenacity: The food security picture for 2050’. It will be held at the John Innes Conference Centre at Norwich Research Park starting from 1.30-2.30pm on Friday 23 May. \nThe preponderance of evidence indicates that we will fall far short of producing enough to meet global food demand and need by 2050. Climate\, soil degradation and loss\, water shortages\, conflict\, trade restrictions and underinvestment in agricultural research are combining to swell the numbers of food insecure and create an ugly world we should not bequeath to future generations. \nNo magic solutions exist but amongst the many good and positive things that could be done\, a few are strategic and essential. Dr Fowler will examine the challenges and point to a few of the most important responses we could be making. \nAt the State Department Dr Fowler launched the ‘Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils’ initiative and organised 150 Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates to raise the alarm about the growing challenges to feeding the world’s people by 2050. \nPreviously\, Dr Fowler led the Global Crop Diversity Trust and is best known for being the ‘father’ of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. \nYou are welcome to attend in person so please register here. \n(Please note that you do not need to register to attend in person if you are already planning to attend the whole of Jonathan Jones’ ‘Looking Back to Look Forward’ event at the same venue.) \nYou can also watch a livestream of the lecture here. \n

SUMMARY:The 2025 Innes Lecture Following the Pepper: Black berries\, Asian trade and European empires
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Innes Lecture is being delivered by Prof Sujit Sivasundaram\, Professor of World History at the University of Cambridge\, who will look at the history of pepper and the role it plays in the world. \nIt will be held on Tuesday 29 April in the John Innes Conference Centre at Norwich Research Park. The event is free to attend and open to all. Please book your tickets here. \nDoors open at 6pm with the lecture starting at 6.30pm. \nPepper is the most widely used spice in the world\, but its widespread use was not always certain or predictable. \nThis lecture follows pepper’s journey from its origins in South India\, across the Indian Ocean\, and through many different hands\, before the Portuguese sought to take control of it. \nThe way pepper was harvested and traded to meet growing demand helped shape the plantation economy. The combination of the plantation economy and European colonisation played a huge role in shaping the modern world. Looking at how pepper was cultivated and traded\, reveals different ecologies\, trade networks\, labour systems and cultural influences. \nProf Sivasundaram’s last book\, Waves Across the South: A New History of Revolution and Empire\, won both the British Academy Book Prize and the Jerry Bentley Prize for World History. He is a Fellow of the British Academy.

Local\, national and international businesses\, large companies\, partner organisations\, like the local Chamber\, as well as SMEs have their offices on the Technology Park\, a key attraction being access to other businesses as well as opportunities to collaborate on Coventry University projects.  Flexible lease and licence terms and access to the Technology Park on a 24/7 basis and both formal and informal networking events further add to why currently over 65 businesses have made the decision to call this home too.  Whether the search is for a small office for a newly established business or a large office of 100 sqm upwards\, there’s a good mix of office sizes to meet varied business requirements. \nKnowing where to go or who to speak to when your business needs a bit of direction can be daunting. That’s why we make it easier by offering access to an extensive range of business support services and projects.  From funding to graduate assistance to taking part in sustainable initiatives and many more\, whatever the business requires to grow and develop\, the Technology Park Centre Management Team will gladly facilitate a discussion with the relevant colleague or partner organisation. \nThat’s not all – our virtual office scheme – VirtualBiz – is ideal for small (or any size) businesses that require a professional appearance but without the office costs. Still having access to business support services and the extensive services available on the Technology Park itself like The Bistro and meeting rooms as office clients\, VirtualBiz offers two cost-effective packages.
