The Forum exists to give business people who run, or who wish to build, businesses that use leading-edge technology access to the innovative technology produced by British universities and research institutions. The wider UKIF community, built around these two central groups of Knowledge/Tech Transfer Offices and entrepreneurial executives, includes those who may provide finance for the spinouts, most notably angel investors and seed funds; those with particular skills they can bring to the community, such as innovation and commercialisation specialists; students; and a limited number of accredited suppliers covering relevant fields such as patent law and technology licensing. Who created the UKIF? The Forum has been established with the backing of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (www.stfc.ac.uk), a non-departmental body of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills of the UK Government, with strong support from leading universities, research institutions, government laboratories and government bodies that fund innovation and business in the UK. What does UKIF do? UKIF provides a single point of contact for UK TTOs and business people from all over the globe. It brings together in one place the commercialisable output of the UK's leading technological research facilities, covering aerospace, particle physics, medicine and life sciences, clean energy, physical sciences, advanced IT, the natural environment and its resources and astrophysics. UKIF provides a Job Board for opportunities within UKIF member organisation spin-outs and also for short pieces of innovation-related project work, such as business case writing, non-excutive positions, mentoring or coaching. UKIF organises Regional and National Meetings and Conferences and provides an Online Meeting Place for discussions, ideas generation and innovation-related contact of all types. UKIF allows discussion around innovative technology so that new commercial applications can be found, new sectors explored and licences or collaborations arranged. |
