It was developed to promote London as a world-class bioscience cluster – and to attract and retain the best scientific talent and innovative firms in the capital.QMB provides 39,000 square feet of modern, semi-bespoke laboratory and office space for bioscience and environmental companies. It is situated on the research campus of Bart’s and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, providing tenants with a wealth of local advice and expertise. QMB is the largest purpose-built space in London for companies in science and technology, and the only centre to offer follow-on growth space for turnover of companies emerging from incubator space. Accommodation is available in suite sizes from 500 square feet, with competitively-priced leases to other London-based offerings. The flexibility of the centre’s floor plan means space can be easily reconfigured to meet a tenant’s needs. Early tenants will be given the opportunity to have space fitted out to their requirements, with financial support from QMB to help towards fit-out costs for a limited period. Basic features include sealed floor coverings in the laboratories, sinks, ducting to install chemistry fume cupboards and biological safety cabinets where appropriate – and carpeted floors in offices. All areas will have suspended ceilings and recessed lighting.Facilities include: a 120-seat lecture theatre, meeting rooms, reception service, 24-hour security system, on-site commercial café, 65 bike spaces and shower facilities. The building has been designed to the highest architectural standards and contributes positively to the character of the local conservation area. Environmental features include a ‘green roof’ to encourage biodiversity, bicycle storage, timbers sourced from sustainable forests, 80% recycled brass cladding and tiles made from reclaimed ceramics. All materials and systems used in the creation and operation of the centre have been selected to maximise sustainability and minimise environmental impact. QMB is just one mile from the City of London, Docklands and Canary Wharf and easy to reach by public transport with excellent rail and Tube links.
