The first phase of SPark is now under construction, with the Innovation Centre and SPark One opening in 2011. With a wealth of support from ground-breaking businesses and institutions across the region, this Park will incorporate best practice in a 77,000 square metre sustainable and state-of-the-art environment, easily accessible by rail, air and the M4 and M5 motorways.

Flexible Innovation
At the heart of the Park the Innovation Centre will provide up to 250 seats on flexible terms. The Centre will fully support growing businesses that have swiftly evolving requirements. Investors seeking a local hub for short periods of time can also be accommodated within the building or virtually, and the Centre will provide a high tech forum for events and networking, drawing in the occupants of the Park and supporting collaboration between business, academia and entrepreneurs.

A Place for Accelerating Success
The second building, which will open for occupation alongside the Innovation Centre, is designed for companies looking for their first stand-alone office. Again, this will be a flexible space that can be adapted to suit the requirements of an accelerating business, supporting their research and development objectives as well as facilitating their research ambitions.

New Standards of Environmental Excellence
In addition to technological excellence, both buildings will achieve a very high level of sustainability, with a BREEAM rating of 'excellent'. This commitment to high environmental standards will be reflected throughout Spark, with the Innovation Centre opening out on to a significant expanse of green space, the original topography of the entire site preserved, a commitment to the use of renewable source energy and the retention of existing hedgerows and stonewalls guiding the positioning of new buildings within the Park.

Socially Sustainable
SPark will also be socially sustainable, positioned to become an integrated element of the local community. The site is designed to be 'permeable', with local transport running through the development rather than round it and significant leisure space easily accessible by those who live at Emerson's Green. Employment opportunities at all levels will be created.

Combining Expertise
The South West region has a wealth of research-focused businesses with over 400 specifically identified. SPark is designed to connect these companies and act as a hub for science and technological innovation in the region. It will provide swift access to experience and investment, as well as enabling companies to capitalise on the leading research facilities, knowledge and expertise of three major universities.

Bristol and Bath form one of the six Science City Regions of England. This status recognises achievement in world-class scientific research, innovation and development in academic and industrial sectors – most notably in the fields of advanced engineering, ICT and creative industries.

Location
The Bristol and Bath Science Park is located at Emerson's Green in Bristol, is close to the major rail stations, the M4 and M5 motorways and is easily accessible from Bristol and Heathrow airports.
