Introduction
Laurus Building, BioCity Nottingham BioCity Nottingham is one of Europe's largest healthcare and bioscience incubators. BioCity provides business support, finance and around 130,000 square feet of first class laboratory and office facilities to high potential bioscience, pharmaceutical, medtech, healthcare and environmental companies and their service providers. It is a quality environment which offers a professional image to both fledgling and established companies which can motivate staff and impress clients and investors.

BioCity currently hosts over 70 companies and almost 600 employees.

Innovation Centre, BioCity Nottingham BioCity Nottingham Ltd is responsible for developing and operating BioCity, which was gifted to Nottingham Trent University by BASF at the end of 2002. BioCity Nottingham Ltd was formed by a consortium of Nottingham Trent University, University of Nottingham and East Midlands Development Agency (emda).

Flexible & Ready-to-Use First Class Laboratories and Office Facilities
Innovation Centre Building
For early stage or smaller businesses BioCity offers accommodation in its Innovation Centre building.

Laboratories meet standard category II specification and accommodate bench-style research with the possibility of having their own write-up suites next to them.

  • laboratories and offices from just 150 square feet to 450 square feet available in combination up to around 2,000 square feet (when available)
  • integrated gas piping
  • purified water
  • power, telephone and computer network points for equipment needs
  • air-handling.

Biotel
The Biotel is suitable for those in the very early stages of starting a business that need to undertake laboratory work, but are not necessarily at the stage of needing a full time lab. This is a laboratory suite within BioCity which has been generically equipped and can be hired on a daily basis. The lab can also be hired by companies for demonstration and training purposes on request. At the heart of the service is a 400 MHz Bruker AV III, the latest in NMR technology with a future aim of hosting a range of other instrumentation in response to tenants' needs.

Stewart Adams Building
Larger businesses, and particularly those with a focus on chemistry, would benefit from locating in BioCity's Stewart Adams Building which houses a business offering drug formulation and pilot scheme GMP manufacturing:

  • laboratory units each contain 8 x 2m wide ducted fume hoods

Laurus Building
Labs at BioCity Nottingham Still larger businesses would find BioCity's third building, Laurus, attractive. This provides:
  • shell and core units of 3,000-10,000 square feet to fit out to tenants’ specifications
  • prestigious, award winning building with spectacular reception
  • 5 year minimum lease period
  • having reached the scale to be considering locating in the Laurus building, it is assumed the tenant would be wanting more control over costs so rent, utilities and business rates are all charged separately.
Office Space
BioCity's whole corporate culture is designed to encourage and inspire creativity and entrepreneurship. Indeed, BioCity is unusual in housing R&D companies alongside investors, patent agents, human resources, training specialists and many more organisations and businesses. Offices from 150 square feet to 2,000 square feet are available with, or independent of, laboratory space.

Companies start out small and take on more space as needed.

Virtual Offices
BioCity Nottingham's virtual tenancy package is a risk-free option for companies looking to be part of the BioCity network without incurring the expense of setting up an office, or employing staff on the ground. Virtual packages cost £65 per month, with just £60 set up fee and one month's notice.

Specialist Early Stage Life Science Investment
Mobius Life Sciences is the investment arm of BioCity Nottingham Ltd. In combination with Nottingham City Council the fund will make seed investments in high potential life science businesses. With a highly experienced and well-networked investment team, an investment from Mobius will add significant value to a business.

Stewart Adams Building, BioCity Nottingham BioCity plays host to companies from across the world that have chosen to locate their European and UK headquarters in Nottingham. BioCity has reciprocal agreements with CCIT in North Brunswick, New Jersey; MU Life Science Business Incubator at Monsato Place, Missouri; and the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park in Richmond, Virginia; whereby each location provides accommodation and support to companies from the other city seeking to gain a foothold in the country.

BioCity Nottingham has an on-site team available every day of the working week to offer help and support to the current occupiers and their employees. BioCity has a 'hands on' approach to all aspects of development and management of the incubator, from working with potential new occupiers through to managing facilities once they are up and running.

In addition, through its relationships with technology organisations, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), finance providers and business support providers, BioCity is able to offer companies access to a range of services in support of the needs of both early stage developing companies and existing organisations.

BioCity Nottingham is the perfect choice for any kind of business event. Indeed the flexibility and variety of its conference and meeting suites make BioCity the ideal solution for business conferences, meetings, seminars and presentations, available for hire by tenants and others. Suites are well designed, contemporary and comfortable. There is also an executive lounge for the use of all delegates. Conference rooms offer a range of options for any event – from a small meeting for 2 people up to a large scale conference (with stage) up to 180 delegates.

Thriving Location
With its government-designated status as a Science City, Nottingham is a natural hub for science and innovation companies, who come together because of the close proximity of other science-based companies and the access to the range of complementary services that these companies require.

BioCity is ideally situated for domestic and international travel, being just 1 hr 30 minutes by rail from London's King's Cross station. Crossing the road to St Pancras station, the fast Eurostar service operates to Paris, Brussels and beyond. BioCity has good road access for both the East Midlands and Birmingham airports.
