History and Objectives Developed in 1999 as the result of the success of the North East BIC, Science Park Status was achieved following the success of a joint bid by Sunderland City Council, the North East BIC and the University of Sunderland. Existing city-wide facilities continue to be developed and new centres have helped to further encourage the growth of high technology companies by offering a range of facilities and services including:
Current Facilities With a mix of modern and highly functional accommodation, Sunderland Science Park offers an extensive range of options for new and developing businesses. North East BIC: The North East BIC is a 14-acre site and includes a purpose built e-business incubator centre – Innovator House. The site has been developed with new and developing businesses in mind and offers a host of complementary support services, including technical and ICT support. St Peter's Gate: Located at the University's campus, St Peter's Gate comprises 33 incubator units for knowledge-based businesses. Located in the city centre, it offers new businesses a high-tech, high-spec building with free car parking, easy access to the Metro and stunning riverside views. The University's Business Development team are on hand to help grow and develop the company. Premises Accommodation on the park is finished to the highest standards, and includes office and light industrial units from 100 to 6,250 square feet, as well as purpose-built bio-technology premises.
