Objectives The Incubator is a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship providing office and laboratory space for early-stage companies. Situated at the campus of Imperial College London, one of the highest ranked universities in the world, early-stage businesses are able to take advantage of being in close proximity to eminent scientists and experts in technology. The Incubator's central location in London also offers easy access to customers, sources of finance and commercial partners. Incubation support is offered by Imperial Innovations, one of the UK's top technology commercialisation, investment and incubation companies.Progress to Date Seventeen technology companies are now operating successfully from over 24,000 square feet of office and laboratory space in the Imperial Incubator. Since it opened in July 2006, four highly successful Imperial Innovations portfolio companies have graduated from the Incubator. Circassia: Circassia has raised a total of £32 million (of which Innovations invested £7.5m) and in February 2011 the company announced the successful completion of trials for one of its allergy products. Thiakis: Sold for a total consideration of up to £100 million to US-based Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, a division of Wyeth (now Pfizer) December 2008. EVO Electric: EVO have since relocated to custom-built premises in Woking and its technology has featured in Lotus vehicles and the Radical Green Endurance SRZero sports car, which in late 2010 became the first electric vehicle to travel the length of the pan-American highway.Nexeon: Imperial Innovations led a £10 million investment round in Nexeon, with an investment of £1.95 million in February 09. The battery materials company announced in early 2011 that it had produced the world's highest capacity li-ion cell. The Imperial Incubator The Incubator's facilities are modern, well-equipped and versatile, allowing tenants to manage their business efficiently and effectively. Serviced to a high standard, the Incubator gives tenants peace of mind, allowing them to focus their energy on their business. Covering 24,000 square feet, the two-storey Incubator facility provides laboratory and office space for new and growing businesses in every sector, from medical devices to software to mechanical engineering. The Incubator also has links to i2india. Fit-out costs for the Incubator were funded with £3m from the London Development Agency (LDA) and £4m from Imperial College London. Modern Laboratories and Write-Up Suites The laboratories, which range in size from 450 to 1100 square feet, each include separate write up areas. Each laboratory has adjustable benches, sinks, eyewash stations, gas and electrical supply, mechanical ventilation for the installation of fume and flow hoods, high-speed communications network and telecom services, and an access security control system. Companies have access to shared equipment including an autoclave and glass wash. Office Space Individual private office suites range in size from 150 square feet to 425 square feet. The Imperial Incubator's private offices vary in size and style to suit the need of its clients. All office suites have power, telephone and high-speed network points and are fully furnished with desks and filing cabinets. For short-term occupancy, six office cubicles are also available. Meeting Rooms, Networking Events and Business Support The Incubator has four meeting rooms of high specification which can accommodate groups of 10 to 30 people. These modern rooms are fitted with audio visual equipment and the room layouts are flexible to suit individual needs. The incubator has plenty of social areas for networking and informal meetings as well as a tea and coffee lounge.
