The Science Park will play a key role in helping to diversify and reinforce the economy of Exeter through the development of knowledge-based businesses and capitalising on links with the science and technology base provided by the University of Exeter, the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry and the Met Office.Partners Work to develop these projects to this stage has been through a partnership of East Devon District Council, Devon County Council, Exeter City Council, the South West Regional Development Agency, the Met Office and the University of Exeter. The partners have now set up the Exeter Science Park Company to drive the Science Park project and actively market to potential tenants and investors. Innovation Centre The Innovation Centre, based on the University's landscaped campus, provides flexible, serviced office and laboratory accommodation for knowledge-intensive companies with units ranging from 100 to over 2,300 square feet. Its clients have access to leading-edge knowledge and expertise and a wide range of facilities and services in an outstanding environment. The Centre provides an easy-access and flexible ITC platform for voice and data, conferencing facilities and café. New and existing tenants already occupying space in the Innovation Centre will be able to move on to the Science Park site when they need expansion space. Location Land for the science park has been secured on 25 hectares of agricultural land on the outskirts of the city of Exeter. The science park will provide services for knowledge-intensive firms and will enable the development of new businesses. The site will offer extensive new facilities encouraging enterprise, science- and Research and Development-related activity. It will offer high-quality space for businesses ranging from start-ups to major corporate headquarters. The proposed layout clusters the buildings together in an attractive composition on the site and will enable a strong sense of community to develop amongst occupiers. As well as providing a site for the Science Park, the purchase from current landowners Eagle One also includes land needed for major Junction 29 improvements which will unlock the full potential of the proposed developments in Exeter and East Devon under the New Growth Point initiative.Development Work has now started to develop the necessary infrastructure for the Science Park with first occupations due in 2013. The total quantity of building development will be some 76,450 square metres to be built in phases spanning a period of 20-25 years. The first phase is likely to comprise up to 18,600 square metres and incorporate a new business hotel, conferencing facilities and a central building providing business support and local services as well as offices for the Science Park Company. The key to the creation of a high-quality and lasting Science Park is sustainability.
