Southampton Science Park opens new Campus

Southampton Science Park is holding a Grand Opening of its new prestigious Benham Campus on Friday 22nd January. The Rt. Hon John Denham MP will perform the opening ceremony and deliver a keynote speech. The event will be attended by local dignitaries, representatives of companies on the Science Park, senior members of the University of Southampton and the development team who played an integral part in the planning and construction of the new campus.

Benham Campus is a self-contained site in an established parkland setting adjacent to the main Science Park estate. Following the securing of planning permission for 100,000 sq ft of office space, the Science Park embarked on an ambitious construction programme to establish a fully serviced infrastructure and build the first two buildings on the new site. Situated in the centre of the nine acre campus, the new buildings provide a total of 26,500 sq ft of high quality office accommodation with ample parking. The new offices were designed with comprehensive IT services and energy efficiency in mind and are equipped with reconfigurable data and telephony and a modern integrated heat exchange system. The buildings provide a first class working environment and have the potential to be fitted out to tenants’ specifications.

At the opening ceremony, the Science Park will also be welcoming aap3 Limited as the first tenants on Benham Campus. aap3’s move to their own building on the new site epitomises the ethos of the Science Park: ambitious knowledge-based businesses exploiting the Science Park’s flexible letting options and thriving in the ‘high tech’ environment. aap3 have progressed from a small company in the Business Incubator on the Park and are now one of the largest providers of IT services to several market leading multi-national organisations. Unit 3 on Benham Campus will be their global HQ.

Commenting on the significance of the new campus, Peter Birkett, Chief Executive of the Science Park, said: ‘The opening of Benham Campus reflects our confidence in the recovering economy and represents an important step in realising our vision for the Science Park as an expanding home for some of the UK’s best knowledge-based businesses. I am excited to welcome aap3 as the first tenant at Benham and look forward to other first like-minded technology companies joining them there.’
