A revolutionary science and technology complex, OpTIC in St. Asaph, have supported the rapid growth of anti-cancer blockbuster drugs company, ADCBIO, who have now built their own £11 million building in Deeside, allowing them to grow and develop further as a business based in North Wales.
From renting a desk in a shared office in 2010 at OpTIC, to moving into a brand-new purpose built 6500sqm £11 million facility in 2019, ADCBIO are certainly growing in the right direction.
CEO for ADCBIO, Charlie Johnson explained “In 2011 we secured investment and grant funding to expand and modify space within OpTIC to open our first lab facility. By 2015 we had opened our third lab and expanded our team to 25 skilled members of staff.
“One of the greatest challenges when creating and building a new company, particularly in the area of scientific innovation, is to find a suitable location that is capable of housing such companies as well as helping support their growth. The OpTIC Technology Centre gave ADCBIO all of that and we have more than exceeded our original goals for the business. Apart from being in a beautiful location the centre provided us with the necessary stability, space and cost-effective services to support our growth.
“We’re grateful to all the support we have received from OpTIC, which allowed us to focus on the most important aspects of setting up and growing our business.”
Caroline Gray, Director at the OpTIC Technology Centre stated, “To watch a company grow and be in the position to open their own purpose-built facility, is something we’re delighted to see and is one of the many success stories.
“OpTIC is designed to support starts ups, so they don’t have to worry about the initial outlay on incubation facilities.
“We combine extensive fully equipped laboratories, business incubation units and conference centre facilities, to assist new companies.”
With ADCBIO joining other successful businesses, once based at OpTIC, it highlights the facilities and support at the OpTIC Technology Centre in St. Asaph, as the perfect location for start-up technology companies in North Wales.
