A new independent asbestos consultancy has been set up in Warwickshire by a local technology entrepreneur with a track record of building successful companies.

Nick Boardman, from Leamington, has established 0800 Asbestos at the Rural Innovation Centre at Stoneleigh Park.

Nick has a history of realising potential in young and burgeoning markets and in 1992 at the age of 20, founded laptop manufacturer Rock Group that became one of the UK’s fastest growing businesses.

More recently, he launched BTXDeals, an online marketplace for digital currency Bitcoin.

With his background in IT, Nick was approached by James Corrigan, who has been in the asbestos industry for 13 years, with the idea of setting up a business to streamline the process of providing asbestos surveys.

They have since developed an automated system to enable a survey report to be delivered within 48 hours as opposed to a typical timeline of seven to 10 days to domestic, commercial and public sector clients.
Nick said: “By law every business has to have an asbestos survey as a duty of care to its employees and although it has been mandatory since 2000, it is only now that people seem to be taking it more seriously.

“Providing a report following an asbestos survey can typically take between seven and 10 days and my business partner James realised there was scope to make the process more efficient.

“With my experience in IT and his knowledge of the industry, we have been able to develop a system that guarantees to deliver a report within 48 hours of a site visit.”

Nick, who is CEO of 0800 Asbestos, says the enterprise has got off to a great start and is already partnering with a major asbestos removal company in the Midlands to conduct surveys on its behalf, in addition to architects and building contractors.

He said: “We are already receiving a lot of direct enquiries but believe more of our growth is going to come from partnering with other providers.

“We are in the process of recruiting a dedicated surveyor to cover the London area in support of James operating throughout the Midlands and elsewhere, and by this time next year we will be looking to have a team of five contracted surveyors.

“Location was key for us in setting up our first dedicated office due to us operating throughout the country and the Rural Innovation Centre at Stoneleigh Park was ideal.”

The Rural Innovation Centre is part of the Warwickshire Rural Growth Network, funded by DEFRAand led by Warwickshire County Council on behalf of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

The building was refurbished by LaSalle Investment Management as part of its on-going transformation of Stoneleigh Park.

Liz Burkinshaw, manager of the Rural Innovation Centre, said: “The Rural Innovation Centre was established to enable small and new businesses to grow and flourish by providing professional serviced offices in a supportive and flexible environment.

“0800 Asbestos is an emerging, innovative company with ambitions to make a mark in its industry and we look forward to supporting it in its development.”
