Mervyn Watley Director Mervyn has been the Director of Corporate Real Estate and Facilities at Northern Ireland Science Park since February 2007. His role encompasses capital development, lease management, facilities management, marketing, business development, event management and the running of its incubator branded 'Propeller'. His remit even includes managing the gigantic dry-dock where the Titanic was constructed, and its 100,000 annual visitors!Mervyn has 23 years' experience in Corporate Real Estate and Facility Management. He started in private surveying practice, then was with the National Australia Banking Group when he was their Property Manager for Ireland. He moved then to the academic sector and was Head of Estates Development with the University of Ulster with one of the most extensive multi-site property portfolios in Northern Ireland. During Mervyn's time in his role, Northern Ireland Science Park has developed considerably as a Science Park, increasing its real estate portfolio, seeing 50% of its tenants grow by 100%, grown its tenant portfolio from 10 to over 100, developed its Propeller incubator unit and developed sector clusters in software development, financial services technology, clean technology/renewable energy, digital media, healthcare, and aeronautical. Northern Ireland Science Park's tenant base ranges from international blue-chip companies such as Autonomy, IBM, Broadsoft, Citi, Fidessa, IBM, SQS, Dow Chemical and SAP to small local companies, just setting out along the road to business success. Northern Ireland Science Park is also home to an active business angel network Halo (voted best in the UK for 2010) and entrepreneur mentorship and support programme, modelled on and allied to Connect in San Diego. Mervyn has been on the Board of UK Science Park from March 2011. |
